Merry Christmas 2015

Christmas has never been a big thing in my family and this year was no different. We went to my cousin’s housewarming, then to Suntec to get my dad’s phone fixed and finally dinner with some of my relatives.

But hope y’all had a good Christmas anyway ^^

Merry Christmas 2015

Thankful :’)

So the haze is back with a vengeance after a respite over the past weekend. At 10pm, the 3h PSI was 194 which is like unhealthy range? Anw I’ve been super paranoid about this haze thing this year also, not v sure why but I’m just like OMG IM GNA DIE every time I step outside and I can smell haze hahaha.

I had dinner w Marcus and we chatted till around 10pm? Then the dessert place kinda chased us away so we went to NTUC and then parted ways. Called home to check if my sissy was home yet and she wasn’t so I called her ask if she wanted to go home together. And just as I met her, my phone rang and… it was my dad offering to pick the both of us up because the haze was v bad.

Because even though home is just a bus ride away, from the bus stop to my house it’s still about a mininum 5min walk D: WHICH MEANS 5 MINUTES OF BREATHING IN HAZARDOUS PARTICLES WHICH MEANS 5 MINUTES CLOSER TO DEATH. And thinking of that, my dad offered to leave the comfort of home to drive to Bishan just so that we wouldn’t have to breathe in the haze any more than we had to.

WHERE TO FIND THIS KIND OF FATHERLY LOVE :’) Thinking about it rly makes me feel v fortunate and loved. My dad doesn’t say I love you, but shows it in the little actions like that :’)

Thankful :’)

Run for Hope 2014

Backlogged post haha so I’m gna put a fake date GASP. Hehe if not really like vv throwback also.

My family has this thing about going for Run for Hope. Okay actually not rly my family has a thing about it. More like my mum zzz. She likes to sign the whole family up for it – whether or not we want to. And ofc I don’t want to HAHA. I rather do my exercising in the comfort of a dance studio / at a gym where I can watch dramas. So this year I was protesting quite loudly about it haha.

Plus I walked practically the whole way HOHO so proud of my resistance/ protest hahaha. But here are some nice photos of us post-run/walk hehe.

Brother's tag
Brother’s tag

This year they gave us tags like that to write what we were running for. If I could tell the truth, mine would read: I run for my mother. So that she won’t nag at me. Something along those lines hahaha. But I couldn’t so I was running for happiness or smth like that LOL. My brother was honest of course being the cheeky, funny (or so he thinks) kid in the family.

Poor sissy got chewed out by my mum because she was walking along w me. It made for quite an unhappy morning zz but the three of us STUCK TOGETHER hahaha yippee.

YF’s wedding

Do brides always look so pretty or is it just my cousin?

Attended my cousin’s wedding dinner last Tuesday! She’s the third one to be married, three in two years!

I was really super happy for her, more so than the previous two cousins who were married last year. I think it’s because I feel closer to her and we talk more often. Plus it feels like she’s been super stressed and busy about the wedding, especially since it got pushed forward by almost three months. So I’m glad her big day has finally come and gone 🙂 but I’m so going to miss her at family gatherings sigh. Part and parcel of growing up!

I really love attending weddings heh. Aside from the food (which isn’t always good), I love watching the videos made about how they met and fell in love. Hahaha it appeals greatly to the romantic in me. Like a real life fairy tale!! And perhaps an idealised notion, but the idea of the couple’s nearest and dearest coming together and wishing the couple well is really quite nice.

Plus weddings always make me feel quite wistful HAHA. wondering when it would be my turn and if I’ll be a pretty bride like my cousin and if I’ll be really happy that day.

An unexpectedly busy Sunday

Today was supposed to be my free-ish kinda day! But it turned out quiteee not free haha but it’s okay I guess, it was a happy day today 😀

Started off my day waking up at a rather terrible hour of 8plus on a SUNDAY MORNING. NOOOOOO T.T It’s only an hour later than my usual weekdays sigh. But I think body alarm clock + was woken up by my sister who was getting ready to go out. It’s okay though, I nua-ed a bit then hopped outta ready to face the day AKA I sat in front of my Saffy in my PJs hahaha. IT’S A WEEKEND MAN cut me some slack. But then I got a text from my mum asking me to pick her up from the market so off I went to the market and back.

By then it was around 9? I was supposed to meet Isaac for breakfast to catch up and just chill ~ because we haven’t hung out for v long. Our initial meeting time was 9.47am! But then it got slightly pushed back because he was held up. And my mum said she would give me a lift to J8! So I wasn’t too worried about being late. PLUS the fact that I’m meeting Isaac at J8 meant that I didn’t have to worry about what I was wearing overmuch. Then at around 9.40am my mum popped her head outta her room door and said she just finished showering so she wouldn’t be able to give me a lift to J8 and she said… “Take the car” OMG I COULDNT BELIEVE MY GOOD LUCK. So that makes Isaac the first friend I drove to meet. Lucky him ^^ I was still late tho because I decided to 1. Not make an illegal turn and went a huge round in the car park to the available car lots and 2. Decided to park between two cars becos I wanted to walk a little less so I had to adjust my car multiple times -.-

Met the starving Isaac at Yakun and bought our kaya toast and shared kaya balls. Note to self: Don’t order it. It tastes a bit odd… probably becos the texture was so unexpected. I expected something more toast-like? But it was more like a pancake in the shape of a ball w kaya inside. A bit odd but we still ate it. Was super full after the meal! So we walked around a bit then decided to just nua at Mos burger w a drink. Sat there and we talked for like almost 2 hours or more I think. But it was so nice to talk to Isaac really. He doesn’t rly try to give advice so much like some of the friends I have who tries to give me advice w everything I say even tho I wasn’t seeking advice. Which is kinda nice but might get kinda annoying if it’s too often.

We talked about so many things and such varied topics. Caught up on each other’s lives, discussed various issues etc etc. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s rly easy to talk to Isaac. Sometimes when we meet, it’s me rambling on amd him giving encouraging answers. Other times we both contribute equally to the conversation. But it’s always comfortable to talk to him. Plus I think it helps that we’re both q honest w each other and I guess we know that we can trust each other w secrets. So yup q nice.

I had to go home at around 1pm so we parted ways at around that time. Went home and changed and immediately went to the function rooms at my house’s clubhouse because it’s my neighbour’s baby’s first month celebration woohoo. Big party they had. Kinda got me thinking about my own 21st party and if I should have one. So tempted to have it but then it’s so troublesome also 😦 what to do?? Should I have one?

Anyway the function started off q as per usual. Normally when my family and I come down for such events when my neighbour invites us, we will say hi, grab some food and keep to ourselves. But this time their first son came over to chat w us (FYI there are four kids, the first month celebration was for the first daughter’s daughter… confusing??) But anyway yeah we hardly have prolonged conversations w the first son (or with any of them actually) haha so it was kinda nice. He’s 22 years old so it was q easy to talk to him, no generation gap LOL. Then halfway through our conversation, his 12 year old sister came to ask if we wanted to play Uno with her and a friend. So in the spirit of good neighbourliness, I agreed.

And we played Uno for over 2h omg. I HAVE NEVER PLAYED UNO FOR SO LONG REALLY. Was honestly q bored by the time it was the last game becos the two younger kids kept running around spitting egg at each other -.- I just wanted to finish the game and go home!!! 😥 but it was q rude to leave midway through the game. Was so happy when someone finally said Uno Game. FAV WORDS OF THE DAY.

Went home and checked up on when we could catch Maleficient at Junction 8. I’ve been wanting to watch it for so long!! I’ve heard mixed reviews about it tho. Like ST and Ming Ming thought it was good but Hazel was disappointed and Ming’s friends didn’t enjoy it. So I decided that I should watch it to make my own decision.

Had dinner w mei and mum at Aijsen. Their ramen’s perfect if you’re craving something salty rly. And I love love love their hoji cha. HOW IS IT SO NICE??!!!

Shopped around J8 for about 15 mins then we went up to the theatre to watch the movie. Long story short: I liked it! Even tho there were gaping holes in the plot to me and some parts didn’t rly make complete sense and I’d have preferred if they expanded on some parts more, overall I quite enjoyed the movie. [SPOILER] They totally pulled a Frozen on us tho SIGH. Was hoping they wouldn’t be predictable like that but yup. Doesn’t matter tho. Happy ending so I’m okay!

Drove home and phew end of my long and tiring day ^^

An unexpectedly busy Sunday

Happy 60th, Daddy!

This year’s a special year for my dad (at least to my family) because it’s my dad’s 60th birthday!! Like so old right wow. That means my dad and my age (generation) gap is 39 years OMG I never realised. That’s really a rather large age gap right?? Anw my mum wanted to do something special for my dad since it’s a milestone age and all. And since my dad is such a social butterfly (really, he has A LOT of friends so popz my pops hahaha geddit. Not that I call him pops la), we thought it’d be kinda nice if we invited his friends and had a party woohoo. But he vetoed the idea, saying he rather have a dinner w the extended family (aww) so my mum organised that.

Then the next thing was the birthday present. We generally don’t buy my dad a bday present becos he’s not into this kinda thing. To him a birthday is nothing v important so in line with that we don’t get him a gift either LOL. But honestly.. we dk what to get for him also? But one night when he was w my cousins at a wake, my cousin introduced him to xiaomi -.- THANKS MAN. Haha my first reaction was omg noooo. Becos to buy it, I’ve to camp online and wait for them to release it then frantically click buy. Don’t like to do that kinda thing zz. But being a good daughter, I decided to try my luck.

The sales were at two hour intervals – 10am, 12noon, 2pm etc. My class started at 12noon so I decided to try for the 10am one. Tried to log in at about 9.50 and guess what. I COULDNT EVEN LOG IN OMG. Heavy traffic on the site zzzzz. So I was q disappointed already becos like I thought I prob wouldn’t be able to get it in school. Nevertheless, I decided to continue trying. SOMEHOW ON THAT DAY I got to school early for my 12noon lesson. Come to think of it, it is quite miraculous. This time I learnt from my previous experience and was signed in at like 11.45am.

Spent the first few minutes of my lesson frantically clicking BUY BUY BUY. Hahaha and GUESS WHO GOT IT WOOHOOOOO OMG I felt so incredibly VICTORIOUS. WHAT A HEADY RUSH OF TRIUMPH. I wanted to do it again man. SO ADDICTIVE HAHAHA.

Was so happy that I got it!! Then I devised a plan hahaha. Decided to lie to my dad that I didn’t get it. Chances are that he’d believe me because I already told him not to be too hopeful about me getting it. Plus I was having lessons so prob cannot buy right. Initially we didn’t plan to get that as a gift for my dad but since I got it, I immediately realised that OMG perf gift for my dad. Just had to wait and keep it a secret until his birthday teehee devious 😀 Told practically everyone that I managed to get it becos yes I was THAT excited haha yknw how I get when I get excited about something oops.

Colluded with my cousin to make the impact of the birthday present better! He managed to get the phone for my grandaunt and his sisters so he liaised w my grandaunt who kept going on and on about how she got the phone but my dad didn’t LOL. All to make him feel even more sian about it.

Days passed and finally it was my dad’s birthday! We went to some restaurant in idk some ulu part of the world. But the food was not bad. Omg I remember they had these AMAZING salted egg yolk prawns. SO FREAKING YUMMY I LOVED IT. Anw the dinner was like normal family dinners la haha nothing super special. THE ONLY EXCITING PART OF COURSE was when we gave him his birthday present. Omg his reaction was HILARIOUS. He was so so happy, partly because I think he was so disappointed at not getting the phone. He kept saying rly louding ‘I have Xiaomi!!!!’ HAHAHA so cute!! I felt so warm and fuzzy inside that I managed to make my dad so happy yay :D:D:D

Took a family photo which was rather nice imo and then yay went home. It was one of my most successful surprises ever man. So satisfying the look on my dad’s face when he opened the present! ^^ Oh but like less than 5 mins of giving it to him… I STARTED TO REGRET LOL. Becos guess who’s the one who has to configure everything to RESEMBLE his prev phone T.T

Haji Lane for Christmas Eve

24 December 2013

My siblings and my initial plan on the day was to go to ICA to collect our passport then proceed to Somerset 313 to shop, lunch at Bishan then go home. But my mum announced that she was going to accompany us there so immediately our plans changed.

As per the past few days, I was the driver. Drove to ICA (it was surprisingly okay!) and we collected our passports like super fast. I was so amazed :O I thought it’d take really long but we took longer to get there than to collect our passports. This is the importance of booking an appointment my friends!

After that we went to the Wendy’s opposite to try their breakfast. It’s not nice my friends. Don’t waste your money and it’s completely not worth the calories. Tasted so meh and nothing like what the names of the meals suggested. Disappointing and so not satisfying boo.

Headed to Bugis after that because we wanted to go to Haji Lane. Okay actually it was more like my mum wanted to bring us to Haji Lane so we decided to just go w it because it’s easier that way. But I was glad we went to Bugis!! Finally bought a new leotard for ballet, something I’ve been wanting for awhile. Now I’ll have three leotards to wear next year yippeeee 🙂 One for each day of extra lessons!

Proceeded to Haji Lane after that. I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to buy clothes there!! Because the last time I went I didn’t really get that many things for myself. But this time I got two sweaters and three new tops omg. What a haul. LOL. Super happy with the sweaters, can’t wait to wear them to school on cold days. But I realise that Sem 2 is probably not gna be very cold considering it’s in Jan-May. Sigh it’s okay. The LTs will be cold.

Took pictures there of course. Here are a selected few ones! 😀

Went home after lunch at Ramen Champion. Which was a very difficult place to eat if you’re not like super into ramen IMO because it’s SO CONFUSING. Ramen is just ramen to me. When presented with so many different choices I’m just like.. *whimper* isn’t it just ramen… So I took really long to choose my meal. AND DIDNT CHOOSE WELL SIGH. My mum’s choice was yummy yum.

Haji Lane for Christmas Eve

汤圆day

AKA 元宵节

I can never recall what the actual name of this day is. It’s just 汤圆 day to my siblings and me LOL. We kinda remember festivals by the food we eat. Like 中秋节 is Mooncake festival, and omg I can’t remember what the dumpling festival is actually called. OH IT’S 端午节 right. This is quite terrible is it not teehee. My daddy would probably have my head if he knew.

Anyway as usual we went to my ah ma’s house to have dinner and eat 汤圆. I drove there both back and forth!!! One of the few times I’ve done so, because I usually feel too tired/lazy so daddy drives home instead. But I’ve been determined to prove myself so that I’ll be allowed to take the car out on my own. Tiny steps, tiny steps. Both drives were quite successful omg. First time my parents were q silent during the whole ride!!!!! HAPPY. I didn’t even have to ask if I was in the right lane that often or if I was going the right way. And they didn’t rly say anything about my driving skills omg. Happy happy 🙂 🙂

Sat around the TV and tried to talk to my cousins after dinner. It’s sometimes kinda hard to talk to my cousins because we lack common topics and we’re not exactly that close. That said tho, I still love them loads because family is family and there’s nobody else I’d love more. Okay except for the distant relatives whose name I don’t even know oops.

Okay actually the point of this post was to talk about the 汤圆. My ah ma makes by hand it every year and… tbh I never really liked it. But omg this year the 汤圆 was FABULOUS. Once I bit into it there would be this glorious burst of sweetness and then in the centre of the kinda tasteless flour and starchy meh-ness, there’s a rewarding little cube of slightly melted sugar. Then you bite into it and ALL THAT FLOUR IS INSIGNIFICANT IN THE PRESENCE OF THE. SUGAR. CUBE.

IS THAT NOT THE BEST TASTING THING EVER. I think I ate more 汤圆 this year than the previous years becos of how delighted my tastebuds were by the sugar hahaha.

No photos of the 汤圆 because it looks like every other photo everyone’s posting. But it’s special in that it’s made by my ah ma and shared by all her children and grandchildren ♥

Feeling kinda lucky because I’ll get to see my cousins again on Christmas. Even tho family gatherings are sometimes q awkward becos I don’t talk much to them, when I look around and see the faces of all these people who have seen me grow up, I can’t help but feel a little glow of warmth. It’s kinda like this is where I belong (to quote the NDP song).
